Whatsapp is a very popular messaging application whose primary goal is to make communication easier and better for all their users. Whatsapp allows users to send and recieve text messages, voice and video calls, share media files and also engage in group conversations/calls.Whatsapp was founded in February 2009 by Brian Acton and Jan Koum and over the years a number of improvements have been made to create a better user experience when interacting with the product.
At some point, we've all experienced the desire to send a specific message—perhaps a birthday wish or a heartfelt congratulations—but found ourselves either too early or too late, eventually forgetting about it altogether.The primary objective of this project is to introduce a seamless message scheduling feature that allows you to effortlessly schedule your messages and have them delivered precisely when intended. With this feature, you'll no longer have to worry about missing important occasions or struggling to send timely greetings.
To add a feature where people can easily schedule messages that will be delivered at the scheduled time.
To create a seamless user experience, I conducted a detailed design process that included understanding user needs, mapping out key actions, and building a straightforward interface. Through wireframing, user flows, and feedback, I crafted a solution that balances ease of use with effective functionality.
Users consistently expressed the need for a message scheduling feature, especially professionals who often manage messages across different time zones. This need for efficient communication at the right time inspired the development of the feature, ensuring it met real-world user demands.
The persona I focused on was busy professionals and individuals who manage time-sensitive communications. They often need to send messages at the right moment, but struggle with timing, especially when dealing with varying time zones or important events.
By creating an empathy map, I was able to capture the emotional journey of the users. It highlighted their frustration with missed messages and their desire for a solution that would simplify message management and help them stay connected without added stress.
I designed a task flow that simplifies the entire process—allowing users to easily schedule, view, edit, and delete messages, ensuring it was intuitive and streamlined for all users.
The design maintains WhatsApp's familiar interface, ensuring a consistent user experience. I applied the platform’s existing colour scheme, typography, and icons, enhancing the new feature’s usability without disrupting the overall design aesthetic.
The final design presents a smooth, intuitive experience for scheduling messages. The wireframes were turned into high-fidelity mockups that reflect a clean, functional design where users can see their scheduled messages, edit them, or delete them effortlessly.
Scheduling a message is as simple as selecting the time and date, typing your message, and pressing 'Schedule'. The process is designed to be user-friendly and ensure no extra steps are needed.
Users can easily view all scheduled messages in a dedicated section. Editing a message is as simple as selecting it, making changes, and confirming the new time.
If a user no longer wants a scheduled message, deleting it is easy—just swipe or tap to remove, giving full control over what gets sent.
Adding a message scheduling feature to WhatsApp will enhance user convenience, allowing messages to be sent at the most appropriate time, even if users aren’t able to do it in real-time. Feedback shows that users value this level of control, especially professionals needing to manage communication across different time zones. This feature will streamline their process and ensure important messages are never missed. With a visually appealing interface, the new feature is easy to navigate, making the scheduling of messages both simple and efficient
